Cohort Cooling

Cohort cooling is a phenomenon in gaming whereby cohorts that started playing the game soon after release tend to retain higher than later cohorts. This could be a result of a combination of factors such as early-adopter vs late-adopter expectations, market saturation, or a growing barrier to entry for new gamers. Forecast models that do not take cohort cooling into account will tend to over-estimate retention over time.
